GoJu Ryu Karate Do

Dai Sensei Kayo Ong in krane stance with bo

Kow Loon (Kayo) Ong is a ninth degree black belt in Okinawan Goju Ryu Karate Do. After trying several different styles of martial arts, Kayo settled on GoJu Ryu after Sensei Akira Kawakami brought the Okinawan system to the U.S through Sensei Thomas Boddie’s Uptown Dojo. One of the main reasons he was attracted to GoJu Ryu was the practicality of the techniques. One does not need to be born with a special body to practice GoJu. Kayo believes the Okinawan Goju system of karate is one in which the average person can learn and become proficient-providing they are willing to seriously apply themselves. He began teaching the art in 1969 and thus has over 40 years of teaching experience. Kayo has taught people from all walks of life and his school is known for the diversity of his students. Now the Head of Chi I Do International, Kayo has Schools throughout the United States, Trinidad and Tobago and Puerto Rico.
