First Annual Fast-A-Thon

Park51 presents its first Annual Fast-A-Thon!

We invite you to help fight hunger and raise awareness by participating in our Fast-A-Thon. We are calling people of all faiths to come and fast with us, while sharing ideas and strengthening our diversity.

We ask that you fast from dawn to dusk on August 28th, 2011 (that means refraining from any food or drink) while keeping in mind those who are less fortunate.  Don’t worry! At 7:30pm, in light of the Islamic tradition of Ramadan, we then invite you to an Iftar dinner to meet new friends and break the fast with a full and free dinner at the Park51 Community Center. As an added bonus, we will enjoy a brief dialogue by Valarie Kaur, Imam Shamsi Ali, and Pastor Samir Selmanovic.

The Park51 Community Center is dedicated to serving the Manhattan community. With that in mind, the Park51 team will be volunteering at the St. Francis Xavier soup kitchen on the morning of August 28th. All proceeds and pledges raised for the Fast-A-Thon will be given in good faith to the soup kitchen so that they may continue to do great service for the community.
